Most common resume mistakes

  • Not including the month when showing dates of employment. This makes the hiring manager think that you are hiding a break in employment. If you are, then it is best to reveal that information up front since they will eventually find out during the background check.
  • Not including your first job out of college. Many hiring managers want to know what you did right out of college. Many candidates do not include this information thinking that it is not important.
  • Not quantifying your performance. Employers want to know what you can do for their company. The best to ensure them that you are the right candidate is to show them what you have done in the past.
  • Limiting your resume to 2 pages. If you are an experienced person, then a 2-page resume may not represent your experience appropriately.
